President Bola Tinubu has approved salary increases of between 30 and 80 per cent for members of Nigeria’s armed forces, with about 250,000 personnel expected to benefit from the new pay package.

The salary adjustment, which takes effect from September 1, provides a 30 per cent increase for officers from Brigadier-General to General, 50 per cent for personnel from Colonel to Warrant Officer, and an 80 per cent increase for ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant.

The new package will raise the annual salary bill for the armed forces from N660 billion to N924 billion.

President Tinubu said the pay increase reflects his administration’s commitment to improving troop welfare and strengthening the military’s capacity to tackle banditry, kidnapping and terrorism. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to modernise the armed forces with improved weapons and technology, while urging personnel to see the gesture as appreciation for their service and remain committed to protecting the nation.
