Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has said Nigeria remains on track to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030, citing stronger economic growth.
Oyedele said the economy grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, up from 3.89 per cent in Q1 and 4.23 per cent in Q2 2025. He noted that 27 sectors grew by more than three per cent, while manufacturing, agriculture and services expanded by 3.24, 4.39 and 4.60 per cent respectively.
The minister said the naira’s appreciation and broader economic reforms had also contributed to a 17 per cent increase in the economy’s dollar value in the first half of 2026. The APC similarly defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, citing $52.7 billion in foreign reserves and more than N15 trillion in petrol subsidy savings as signs of progress.
Oyedele said sustained growth and government support programmes would improve incomes and reduce poverty, adding that the IMF expects Nigeria to be among the 10 countries contributing most to global economic growth in 2026.
