Public servants across the federal, state and local governments are set to commence a three-day nationwide warning strike today over unresolved demands by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.
The council directed workers to withdraw their services from midnight on Friday, October 2, to Sunday, October 4, 2026, following the Federal Government’s failure to respond to its demands.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the council’s National Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga.
The workers are demanding a reduction and stabilisation of petrol prices at N500 per litre, payment of wage awards, upward review of salaries and allowances, and the immediate establishment of a committee to negotiate a new national minimum wage before January 2027.
The council said it had earlier written to President Bola Tinubu on September 21 and indicated that the government’s response would determine whether the strike would proceed.
It urged public servants across the three tiers of government to fully participate in the action, citing rising living costs and increasing economic pressure on workers and their families.
