Petrol Tanker Levels Shops At Idimu, Lagos

A Petrol tanker carrying the label and colours of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, last night lost control at Idimu in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State and rammed into a row of shops at the other side of the road.

Luckily for the owners of the shops and pedestrians who might be on the road, the accident happened at about 11:15pm when the shops had closed and the normally busy road was virtually empty of traffic.

Even at that, the scope of the accident has left many people at the scene this morning, wondering. Eye witnesses say, the tanker (which, luckily again) was empty of petrol, skidded across the concrete lane marker from the other side of the road.

The truck carrying plate number LIA41X, virtually ‘flew’ across First Royal Petrol Filling Station to level the shops which stood in front of a church, The True Ark of Salvation (Aladura Worldwide Assembly).

Apostle William Akomolafe who runs the church and lives on the premises with his family told People & Power that it was a horrifying experience. “The noise was so loud and there was a cloud of dust that immediately took over the vicinity. My family members had to scale the fence into our neighbour’s compound but I refused to move. I wanted to see the end of it all. The church building recorded only minor damage but my Honda Accord car parked in front of the church was damaged.

Apostle Akomolafe disclosed that the owners of the shops must have suffered colossal loses since the shops were completely levelled. Two of the shops belonged to a company called Stage Link Int’l Ltd which is run by Mr. Emma Iloka and his wife. Their shops were stocked with electronics. The other shop was into computers and accessories.

Mr Ifeanyi Ebeagwu, brother of Mrs Iloka told People & Power that the two companies have lost several millions of naira to the accident.
