The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye has reportedly regained his freedom after his alleged abduction along Gwagwalada Road on his way to honour a court trial in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Melayes’s abduction on Thursday morning was announced by the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce who said he received the news from Melaye’s younger brother.
The freed Senator on Friday took to his twitter handle to announce his freedom from his abductors, saying he was traumatized for 11 hours in a place he described as a wilderness.
Although it is not clear what exactly happened or if he paid a ransom to regain his freedom, the senator thanked God and Nigerians for letting him escape dangerous attacks through their prayers.
“I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME,” Melaye tweeted.
Following Melaye’s absence in court, the presiding judge adjourned his trial in a case of attempted suicide filed against him by the police to August 9, 2018.
