At least 50 persons including women and children have died in Kenya as a result of a bus accident as they were travelling from the country’s capital, Nairobi to the Western town of Kisumu.
Confirming the incident, OCS Charles Ocharo, a police officer from the Fort Tenan area where the accident happened on Wednesday morning said the bus veered off a flyover and somersaulted several times.
Another local news channel, Nation Media also quoted Kericho County Police Commander, James Mogera as saying that the death toll from the 67-seater bus accident could rise from its present 49 as at least 10 injured people have been reportedly rushed to local hospitals in the area.
Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with the victims of the accident. According to a message he sent through his official Twitter handle, he called on drivers to always exercise caution to avoid such catastrophic incidents.
“As authorities investigate the cause of the accident with a view of taking action, I would like to remind drivers to always exercise caution to avoid such catastrophic incident,” Kenyatta added.
