The Kensington Palace has officially confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is pregnant and expected to put to bed in the summer of 2019 with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II as the child’s great-grandmother.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Queen and other members of the royal family congratulated Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry as they gathered in Windsor for Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

The statement added that The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were delighted for the couple.

Reports that the Palace was talking in riddles without stating the obvious before the royal tour to Australia and New Zealand for Prince Harry’s Invictus Games have also been finally put to rest.

Despite shying away from public appearances, Meghan has had a busy summer. She has given a lengthy interview to the team behind a new documentary series, ‘Queen Of The World’.

After she and Harry visited Amal and George Clooney who are tipped to be the couple’s first choice as godparents in Lake Como, Meghan took a solo trip to Toronto where she caught up with her best friend, Jessica Mulroney before travelling to Los Angeles to see her mother, Doria Ragland.

Interestingly, both Amal and Jessica have twins, prompting speculation that the 37-year-old Meghan is also having a multiple pregnancy.

The couple had previously expressed their desire for a family in an interview shortly after their engagement was announced in November 2016. When asked about children, the 34-year-old Harry said they planned to take things ‘one step at a time and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future’.

The baby will be the seventh in line to the British throne after Prince Charles, Prince William and his three children and Prince Harry.

Many prominent dignitaries including the British Prime Minister, Theresa May have congratulated the royal couple.

“My warmest congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the happy news they are expecting a baby in the Spring. Wishing them all the best,” May tweeted on Monday.

However, despite the fact that the impending arrival will be a huge time of excitement for the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan has made it clear to Harry that she is not going to become a full-time housewife.
