Roger Federer captured his fourth Miami Open title with an emphatic 6-1, 6-4 win over the tournament’s defending champion, John Isner.
The 37-year-old Federer, who is currently ranked number 5 in the world broke the seventh-seeded American in the opening game and took the first set in 24 minutes.
Playing his 50th Masters final, the Swiss legend produced some typically sublime ground strokes and backhands to beat Isner, who came into the match having not dropped a set in the tournament, in an hour and three minutes.
The triumph is Federer’s 28th Masters title and the 101st overall for a player who has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles.
“What a week it’s been for me. I’m just so happy right now. It’s unbelievable. I played here in 1999 for the first time and here I am in 2019. It means a lot to me,” Federer said after the match.
Following his victory at the Dubai Championships, Federer becomes the first two-time champion on the ATP Tour this season.
