Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja has reportedly withdrawn from Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Certificate of Return suit filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Abang’s withdrawal is coming barely a week after Jusice Taiwo Taiwo of the same court withdrew from the case. It was gathered that after Justice Taiwo withdrew from the case on April 10, it was reassigned to Abang.
Justice Abang was said to have fixed April 18 for hearing of the suit but on the said date, he announced his decision to withdraw.
Announcing his withdrawal, Justice Abang disclosed that he made the decision after Okorocha wrote to the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, asking for the transfer of the case to another judge.
According to Justice Abang, Okorocha wanted the case to be transferred because his opponents in the case were already jubilating in anticipation that the case would be dismissed by him.
