
Nigeria and Kenya took the lead in the number of young people who received this year’s Queen Elizabeth’s Young Leaders Awards yesterday evening. Both countries had three winners each out of a total of 81 recipients drawn from 45 Commonwealth nations.
The awards which were presented at the Buckingham Palace in London had a total of 21 African beneficiaries. South Africa and Malawi had two winners each while Ghana, Cameroon, Botswana, Lesotho, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sierra Leone and Tanzania had a winner each.
Winners of this year’s awards received a package of training, mentoring and networking, including a one-week residential programme in the UK. The climax of the programme was the ceremony in which Her Majesty, the Queen of England personally presented the awards to them.
The Nigerian winners were Olanrewaju Adeloye, Imrana Alhaji Buba and Femi Makanjuola.
