United States President, Donald Trump on Tuesday warned Iran that an attack on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force, with parts of the country facing obliteration.

The US President issued the threat as he criticized the ‘ignorant and insulting’ remarks made by Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani who had mocked Trump by claiming the White House was ‘afflicted by mental retardation’.

Amid escalating tensions between both countries, Rouhani had described the fresh US sanctions imposed on Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his associates as outrageous and idiotic.

In a series of tweets posted on Tuesday, Trump said Iran’s ‘very ignorant and insulting statement only shows that they do not understand reality’.

“Any attack by Iran on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force. In some areas, overwhelming will mean obliteration. No more John Kerry and Obama!,” Trump tweeted.

Trump said Iran’s leadership could not comprehend being nice or compassionate but only understood the strength and power of  the US which he said was by far the most powerful military force in the world.
