The Desert Foxes of Algeria on Sunday night defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 to qualify for the finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) holding in Egypt.

An own goal by Udinese defender, William Troost- Ekong in the 40th minute of the first half and a well-curled free kick by Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez in the final seconds of added time handed the Algerians a well-deserved victory in the semi-final clash. 

They have now booked a place to battle the Teranga Lions of Senegal, who defeated the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 1-0 in extra time courtesy of an goal by Dylan Bronn in the other semi-final on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Super Eagles will hope to put the disappointment of the loss behind them when they file out against the Tunisians in the third place play off.
