Members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were on Monday caught on camera protesting peacefully on the streets of Japan over President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the Asian country.
The protesters, who were chanting ‘Biafrans, One family, One Family, I.P.O.B.’ also carried placards with different messages, one of which read ‘Nigeria, Stop Killing Biafrans’.
The leader of the secessionist group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had over the weekend ordered his members to disgrace President Buhari who is in the country to participate in the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
The Presidency however has through the media aide to the President, Femi Adesina issued a statement denying the protests, claiming that the group has had nothing to do with Buhari since he arrived Yokohama, Japan.
The statement further urged Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to disregard concocted stories backed with spurious visuals of any protest or harassment of the President and his team.
“It is the stock-in-trade of hate mongers who do not realize that the rest of Nigerians have left them far behind,” the statement said.
