Huge peaceful marches have taken place across the United States against racism and police brutality on the 12th day of protests sparked by the death of a black man, George Floyd.

George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. Video showed a white police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes while he was pinned to the floor.

The officer who killed him,Derek Chauvin has been dismissed from the police force and charged with murder. Three other officers who were at the scene have also been sacked and charged with aiding and abetting second degree murder and second degree manslaughter.

Tens of thousands of people marched in Washington DC, in the city’s largest protest so far. Crowds also demonstrated in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Large anti-racism protests took place in a number of other countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany and Spain.
