The refusal of cattle herders in Ondo State to comply with the orders of the State government has led to the arrest of about 37 herdsmen and 5000 cattle.

The arrest was made by the Amotekun Corps in government forest reserves located at Ala, Oda and Ofosu.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had earlier asked the herdsmen to register with the government so as to enjoy unhindered operations in the forest reserves. He also issued a seven-day quit notice to non-compliant herders in government forest reserves

Other herders who could not cope with the terms and conditions of the state government had met with the Amotekun, and peacefully moved out of the state.

Amotekun, it has been reported, are still in the forest to flush out the remaining herders.  They have however promised to hand over the arrested herders to their chairman to lead them out of the state.

”Anybody caught again after this will be prosecuted” Amotekun warned.
