The Kwara State Government has announced a reduction in work days from five days to three per week for civil servants in the state. This decision comes in response to the significant increase in transport fares, causing financial strain for the populace. The directive was issued by Murtala Atoyebi, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, in a statement released in Ilorin.

To implement this measure, Mrs. Susan Oluwole, the State Head of Service, has instructed all Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to promptly devise a schedule indicating the alternating work days for each employee under their supervision.

Oluwole clarified that this is a temporary solution aimed at alleviating the burden on public workers in the state. It is also part of a broader strategy to mitigate the hardships faced by state employees following the removal of fuel subsidies, as announced by the Federal Government.

However, she cautioned workers against taking advantage of the governor’s generosity, emphasizing that her office will intensify monitoring of MDAs to ensure strict compliance with the new work arrangement.
