President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate release of ₦111 billion for the commencement of the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Jos section of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the approval on Wednesday during the project’s flag-off ceremony in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, stating that the funds would be released immediately to the CGOC–CGC Joint Venture, the project’s contractor, to begin construction.

Umahi disclosed that the Minister of Finance had requested the President’s approval documents to facilitate payment, expressing confidence that the contractor would receive the funds within the week.

President Tinubu described the project as a key component of his administration’s infrastructure agenda, aimed at improving regional connectivity, boosting economic growth and enhancing road transportation across northern Nigeria.

The 125-kilometre Akwanga–Jos stretch is the first phase of the planned 700-kilometre, six-lane Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway, which will pass through Nasarawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe and Borno states.
