The Federal Government has accused the militant groups of the Niger Delta of refusing to negotiate a lasting solution to the problems in the region. The government says that the aggression exhibited by the militants in destroying oil installations is not helping matters and has frustrated peace talks.
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the Buhari Administration has expressed sadness at recent destructions caused by the militant groups:
“Despite the government’s demonstration of goodwill by bringing stakeholders to the roundtable, militant groups have continued to blow up national economic assets. We must keep national interest above all else and give priority to eschewing violence and destruction.”
