The federal government on Thursday indicated that a revised national minimum wage regime will take effect starting April 1st, 2024.
Information Minister Idris Mohammed disclosed that the current N30,000 monthly minimum wage is set to expire at end of March next year.
The statement comes as budget forecasts for 2024-2026 show over N24 trillion ($58 billion) allocated for civil service wage bills during the period.
In cushioning subsidy removal impacts this May, President Tinubu had temporarily raised minimum pay to N35,000 ($85) across federal workers. However, labor leaders stressed that a permanent review is legally mandated in 2024.
