The Senate has passed the N98.5 billion 2024 supplementary Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) budget. The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during today’s plenary session, following the consideration and adoption of a report by the Committee on FCT, presented by Sen. Mohammed Ibrahim of Yobe South.
Before the report’s consideration, Sen. Ireti Kingibe raised a point of order to formally complain about her exclusion from the activities of the Committee on FCT, of which she is a member. Senate President Akpabio acknowledged her complaint and advised her to follow the official procedures by communicating her concerns through a motion.
The supplementary budget bill was initially passed by the House of Representatives last week. President Bola Tinubu had recently presented the bill to the parliament, emphasizing the necessity of the funds to address critical infrastructure needs in the nation’s capital that were not covered in the 2024 budget.
The approval of this supplementary budget underscores the Senate’s commitment to ensuring that the Federal Capital Territory receives adequate funding to maintain and develop essential infrastructure.
