Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Christopher Musa has promised that the Nigerian army will take action if the ongoing protests escalate. Musa made this statement on Friday while addressing journalists about the recent violence recorded in the country.
Since Thursday, Nigerians have been protesting against hardship, hunger, and other socio-economic challenges. However, the protests have been marred by incidents of vandalism and looting by hoodlums who hijacked the demonstrations.
In response to the situation, Musa assured that the military is on high alert and fully prepared to intervene if necessary. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will take decisive action if the protests spiral out of control,” he said.
Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar also praised the National Council for Civil Society of Nigeria for not participating in the protests. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s numerous initiatives aimed at improving the economy for all Nigerians.
“He is just one year in office and he has done very well. I know that with these initiatives, we will soon start to see positive results,” Abubakar said.
