President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting behind closed doors with heads of security and paramilitary operatives under the aegis of the National Security Council. The meeting is taking place at the President’s office in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Leading the session is Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, along with the service chiefs and other military and paramilitary heads. This emergency meeting comes in response to the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance.
The protests, which have turned violent in some states, have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property. On Sunday, President Tinubu addressed the nation, urging the organizers to suspend the protests due to the escalating violence. He emphasized that he has heard the protesters’ grievances loud and clear but warned against allowing opposition politicians to exploit the situation to undermine the country’s democracy.
Joining the President in the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, among others.
The outcome of this high-level security meeting is eagerly anticipated as the nation watches to see how the government plans to address the escalating unrest and restore order.
