Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles have safely returned to Nigeria after their challenging experience in Libya .

The Nigerian side were set to play a return leg in their bid for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier but the team claimed they faced a very hostile reception from their Libyan hosts  which led to their return to Nigeria without waiting for the match billed for Tuesday, October 15.

Captain William Troost-Ekong expressed pride and resilience in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, “BACK HOME SAFE & SOUND. Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken. Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome.”

Reflecting on the experience, Troost-Ekong noted how the ordeal had strengthened the team’s bond. “I’ve seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this, an experience that has brought us even closer TOGETHER.”
