President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.), as the administrator of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
During a national broadcast on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all state lawmakers for an initial period of six months.
“In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.) as administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State,” Tinubu stated.
The President clarified that the declaration does not affect the judiciary, which will continue to operate under its constitutional mandate.
The move follows prolonged political tensions in Rivers State, prompting federal intervention to restore order.
