The Labour Party (LP) has appointed Senator Nenadi Usman as its Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary following a crucial meeting of its statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Friday in Abuja.

The new interim leadership, which includes other members of an interim working committee, is expected to steer the party’s affairs until the next national convention, where a fresh National Executive Committee will be elected.

One of the key resolutions from the meeting was the adoption of a comprehensive schedule for the conduct of congresses across all levels of the party. These include ward, local government area, state, zonal congresses, and ultimately, the National Convention.

The party’s National Secretariat has been directed to publish detailed guidelines and timelines for the elections to ensure a transparent and democratic process throughout.

The NEC meeting was attended by prominent party stakeholders, including the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, and the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti — the only sitting governor from the party.

In his remarks, Ajaero reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to representing the interests of ordinary Nigerians. “The Labour Party remains a party for the common man,” he said, urging members not to lose faith despite the internal challenges facing the party.
