President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police, citing pressing family considerations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the president commended Egbetokun for his decades of service and dedication to the Nigeria Police Force, describing his tenure as marked by professionalism and commitment to internal security.

Tinubu also approved the appointment of Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police, as Acting Inspector General with immediate effect. He expressed confidence in Disu’s experience and leadership to guide the force during a critical period.

The president said he would soon convene the Nigeria Police Council in line with the Police Act 2020 to consider Disu’s substantive appointment before forwarding his name to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring a professional, accountable, and well-equipped police force.
