Former Kano State governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), completed his registration with the ADC in Kano, where he was formally welcomed into the party by its leadership and supporters.

The high-profile event attracted several notable political figures, including David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye, and John Odigie-Oyegun, highlighting the growing interest in the ADC as a coalition platform.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kwankwaso described his move as a strategic decision driven by the need to align with a political platform capable of delivering meaningful change for Nigerians. He noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters and political associates.

The former governor also expressed gratitude to members of the NNPP for their support during his time in the party, acknowledging that his departure marked the end of a significant political chapter.

Political observers say Kwankwaso’s defection could reshape opposition dynamics, with the ADC increasingly emerging as a rallying point for key figures seeking to build a formidable front ahead of the next general elections.
