The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has resigned his position in the Federal Executive Council to pursue a senatorial bid in Kebbi State.
His resignation follows a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring all political appointees seeking elective office in the 2027 general elections to step down by March 31, 2026.
Sununu, who was appointed to the humanitarian affairs ministry in November 2024, stated that his mission during his tenure was to help rebuild public confidence in the ministry. He highlighted efforts to strengthen institutional frameworks and improve the delivery of poverty alleviation programmes.
Prior to his role in the humanitarian sector, Sununu served as Minister of State for Education. He also represented the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he chaired the Committee on Healthcare Services.
