President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, describing them as “barbaric and cowardly.”

The President denounced the violence in Jos, as well as the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna, calling the incidents an affront to Nigeria’s collective values and security.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting,” Tinubu said.

He assured Nigerians that those responsible for the attacks would be brought to justice, directing security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators. The President also warned against the spread of misinformation capable of inflaming tensions, cautioning sections of the media against prematurely attributing the attacks to religious motives.

Tinubu reaffirmed that security agencies are actively responding to the situation and emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property. He urged communities to comply with evacuation and relocation directives where necessary.

The President also welcomed the safe return of two victims abducted during the Kaduna incident, while calling for the immediate rescue of others still in captivity.

“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence. All the remaining abductees from Kahir village must be rescued immediately,” he stated.

Tinubu commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their efforts in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations.

He further assured both states of the federal government’s continued support, while expressing condolences to the families of those killed and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The President added that the government is acquiring more advanced security equipment to enable real-time tracking and neutralization of criminal elements across the country.
