President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rwandan President Paul Kagame have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda through renewed diplomatic and economic cooperation.

The two leaders met at the Urugwiro Presidential Villa shortly after Tinubu arrived in Kigali for the Africa CEO Forum.

During the meeting, both presidents agreed to revive the Joint Permanent Ministerial Commission signed in 2021 and resolved that Nigeria would host the next session of the commission.

Tinubu also said Nigeria would consider reciprocating Rwanda’s 30-day visa-free policy for Nigerians in line with efforts to promote Pan-African integration.

The leaders further discussed the activation of pending memoranda of understanding covering tourism, anti-corruption and the fight against illicit drugs.

They also exchanged ideas on implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area between both countries to boost trade and economic cooperation.

As part of efforts to expand export opportunities, Nigeria is also in talks with RwandAir following the establishment of an air cargo corridor with Uganda Airlines last year.

The Africa CEO Forum is expected to begin later on today in Kigali.
