Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state, declaring his support for whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

Fubara made the announcement in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, saying the decision followed deep reflection and consultations with family, friends, and associates.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations… I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC primaries. I do so with a full heart and a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he said.

The governor said Rivers State’s unity and stability must take precedence over personal ambition, stressing that leadership sometimes requires sacrifice in favour of collective interest.

“Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” he said.

Fubara also expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices, acknowledging possible disappointment over his withdrawal.

He added that his recent silence was deliberate and guided by what he described as the higher interest of the state, as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
