Former Nigerian President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will bounce back and win the general elections in 2019 as a result of steps being taken by the party to re-organize.
He stated this while receiving selected members of the Strategy Review and Inter-Party Affairs Committee of the party led by Prof. Jerry Gana in his Abuja home on Monday. The visit was to intimate the former president about the steps being taken by the Party to wrest power back from the ruling APC come 2019.
“We lost the presidency but that does not diminish PDP. Every other party in Nigeria knows that PDP is still the number one party,” he said.
While thanking the former President, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Jerry Gana said the PDP is reaching out to other political parties with similar ideologies with a view to forming a merger with the National Conscience Party (NCP) being on top of the list.
Jonathan in his response advised the PDP to desist from imposition and control of delegates during the party’s primaries as this, he said, would make it difficult for any group or individual to manipulate the process.
He also commended the Markarfi-led Caretaker Committee for their report saying that “it is a clear sign that PDP will win in 2019.”
