Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday stormed the office of the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun in Abuja to demand for the immediate release of his state’s January statutory allocation.
He arrived the premises at about 3.00pm but could not meet the finance minister on seat as she was said to be attending the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa.
After meeting with an unidentified personal assistant to the minister, Fayose told journalists that he was baffled that out of the 36 states in the Federation, Ekiti was the only one left out in the disbursement of funds– an action which he described as “politically motivated.”
“The minister called yesterday to assure me that she would look into the matter. But you should appreciate that the civil servants in Ekiti are restive, having spent their money for Christmas and New Year celebrations. I met the PA who assured me that the matter would be resolved,” he said.
In a related development, the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has given the reasons behind the non-release of the state’s statutory allocation.
A statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun claimed the delay in the release of funds was due to Governor Fayose’s failure to adhere to the terms of agreement contained in the approval of the funds.
The statement went on to conclude that the Governor’s allegation was aimed at pitching the people of the state against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Fayose had on Tuesday disclosed at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital that the state was being deliberately starved of its funds to hinder his developmental initiatives.
