President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and submit its findings within 30 days.

The Presidency said the PFIPC was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal or official backing. It noted that one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely presented himself as the council’s Director-General and claimed to be a presidential appointee.

The investigation will cover allegations of forged appointment letters and official documents, the use of fake presidential appointments to obtain official recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation, as well as the opening of bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using forged documents.

President Tinubu also directed the ICPC to identify all collaborators, trace the source and movement of any funds involved, determine the roles of any public officials, private individuals, financial institutions or intermediaries connected to the scheme, and recommend measures to prevent similar abuses.

All federal ministries, departments and agencies have been instructed to cooperate fully with the investigation. Tinubu stressed that the integrity of the Presidency and government institutions must be protected against impersonation, forgery and abuse of official identity, directing that anyone found culpable be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
