The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a suspect, Sunday Ukeh, and impounded a truck carrying 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during an intelligence-led operation in Awka.
The command’s spokesperson, Edwin Okadigbo, said the truck was intercepted on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by the Anti-Vandalism Squad.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect allegedly attempted to evade arrest by driving towards operatives and later tried to assault one of the officers after he was apprehended. Preliminary investigations also revealed discrepancies in the waybill accompanying the petroleum product.
The suspect and the truck are in custody for further investigation, while the NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to tackling illegal activities in the petroleum sector and warned against attacks on its personnel.
