The Federal Government and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have reached a resolution on concerns surrounding the management of King’s College, Lagos, with the government assuring that no member of staff will be dismissed.

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the arrangement for the King’s College Old Boys Association to continue managing the institution would proceed, while a seven-member high-level committee would be constituted to review the agreement and make further recommendations.

The committee will include representatives of the Federal Ministries of Education and Labour and Employment, the TUC and the King’s College Old Boys Association. It is expected to conclude its assignment within one to two weeks.

Alausa also assured that the deployment of academic and non-academic staff would be handled in line with the Public Service Rules.

TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro, described the engagement as fruitful and announced the suspension of the industrial action earlier directed at its affiliates to allow the committee complete its assignment.

Toro said the union could resume the action if necessary, adding that the government had addressed key concerns raised by workers.

He also stressed the need for urgent intervention to address the deteriorating condition of King’s College.
