Henry Chibueze, alias Vampire, the man from Imo State who is widely believed to be a notorious kidnapper, armed robber and rapist was gunned down by security operatives in the early hours of Thursday.
A statement released by Jimoh Moshood, the spokesman of the Nigeria Police on Thursday said Vampire was killed after a fierce gun battle with the police which lasted over an hour.
“The most dreaded, vicious and deadly kidnap-for-ransom kingpin and notorious armed robber, Henry Chibueze a.k.a Vampire who was rescued from prison warders in court in Owerri on 27/01/2017 was killed in a gun battle with the police,” the statement read.
Moshood revealed that Chibueze was killed at about 1 a.m. in Omu Awa Forest in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State by Police Special Forces led by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
He said apart from the large cache of arms and ammunition recovered, five members of the gang namely Chukwu Ebuka Iheazota, Obinna Ela, Arinze Abecheta, Clifford Aheana and Samuel Ugochukwu are now in police custody and will be paraded and charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
It would be recalled that on Friday, January 27, about 30 members of Chibueze’s sophisticated gang stormed the Owerri High Court premises where he was to face criminal charges bothering on armed robbery, kidnapping, murder and rape and whisked him away unchallenged.
