Omatek Ventures founder and one of the most prominent members of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry in Nigeria, Mrs. Florence Seriki has been reported dead at the age of 54.
She is said to have died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after a brief battle with cancer of the pancreas and jaundice.
The Chemical Engineering graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, was a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) and the Institute of Directors.
She was also Nigeria’s pioneer and foremost indigenous Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with her Omatek Ventures specializing in the manufacture of computers and other ICT devices.
A notable entrepreneur and philanthropist, Seriki was until her death, the Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director of Omatek Ventures Plc, a company she founded some twenty-five years ago.
Reacting to the news of her death, a former Head of Corporate Communications of Omatek Computers, Mr. Adebiyi Fashoyin, eulogised her rare virtues on his facebook page with the words:
“Good night Amazon! The heavens are blazing forth, the death of the princess! You are ahead of your time in spite of your humility and simplicity.”
