A British court on Wednesday, awarded £1 to a former governor of Delta State, James Ibori in damages for his unlawful detention by the British Home Department in December last year.
This amount is far below the £4,000 Ibori is demanding from the court for his one day and 18 hours detention but the court claims the meager amount awarded him was probably due to the millions of pounds the authorities have failed to recover from him.
The cost the Home Department will eventually pay to Ibori, who was released in February this year from a UK jail, will be determined at a later date.
