The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) yesterday wrote an open letter to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, warning him to stop seeing himself as an emperor in the struggle for Biafra.

In the letter signed by the APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, the party condemned in strong terms, Kanu’s recent threat that there would be no elections in South-Eastern Nigeria starting with Anambra State whose governorship elections has been scheduled to hold on November 18.

Describing Kanu’s threat as “irresponsible, irredentist and totally devoid of any sane or intellectual focus,” the party said the IPOB leader does not have the right to speak on behalf of the Igbo, whom the party said are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement rather than secession.

“I must let you know that while we all acknowledge your leadership of IPOB, you certainly do not speak for Ndigbo of the south-east extraction. You must appreciate that for different logical reasons and perception, the Biafra concept has attracted favourable comments amongst our people, ostensibly borne out of the marginalization of Ndigbo in the Nigeria state.

“In this popular agitation for Biafra, Ndigbo have not instituted a separatist movement, nor a terrorist gang as it were,” the statement said. We are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement,” the statement said.

“The agitation for Biafra must therefore be taken to the next level in accordance with International Law, norms and practices which would engage intellectualism and embrace contributions from the cream of the leadership and intelligentsia of Ndigbo.

I advise you drop this vain sense of emperorism and humble yourself to the true leadership of Ndigbo for a proper and better articulation of the Biafra struggle,” it added.

The statement further reminded the IPOB leader that the powers vested on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections is guaranteed under the constitution of Nigeria and therefore cannot be threatened under any guise or platform.
