Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has said that the Nigerian Army would not get itself entangled in politics while discharging its constitutional duties.
The Army Chief made the disclosure on Wednesday in his address shortly after commissioning a water treatment plant built by the engineering corps of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army at the Abakpa Barracks in Enugu State.
“I want to assure that the Nigerian Army will remain apolitical and responsive in the discharge of its constitutional roles,” Buratai said.
He expressed the hope that the water scarcity currently being experienced in Enugu would be addressed by the treatment plant which has the capacity to supply up to a million litres of water daily.
In his response at the event which had in attendance the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi and Deputy Governor of Anambra, Nkem Okeke, the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi commended the Army and other security agencies for their roles in making Enugu a peaceful and safe state.
