At least two people have been confirmed dead and several others either injured or stranded after Hurricane Irma hit the Caribbean Islands on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims were in the French overseas territories of Saint Barthelemy in the West Indies and Saint Martin, a half-French half-Dutch Island when 185 mph winds and torrential rain, the most devastating Atlantic hurricane ever recorded, wrought havoc.
Irma, which has broken a record after maintaining maximum wind speeds of 185 mph for more than 24 hours passed directly over Barbuda and rendered the island which inhabits over 1,700 people incommunicado.
French President, Emmanuel Macron says he expects that victims and heavy damages whose “toll will be harsh and cruel” will be discovered after the destructive hurricane has left the devastated islands.
