The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned Thursday’s invasion of his family home at Afaraukwu, Umuahia in Abia state by men of the Nigerian Army.
In a telephone interview with Channels Television, Kanu alleged: “They shot at my house. They killed 22 people. They almost killed my father .They shot our only dog.”
He further debunked allegations made by the Army that IPOB operates a Biafra Secret Service and other outfits, saying that the group only runs a vigilante outfit meant to protect the lives and property of people in the community.
“They are a vigilante group meant to protect our land from criminals, Fulani herdsmen and the rest. They have no guns. Have you seen them with guns?,” Kanu querried.
Soldiers deployed to the state under the Operation Python Dance launched by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai, had on Thursday besieged Afaraukwu, Umuahia the hometown of the IPOB leader.
