President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his administration was committed to identifying and addressing the root causes of violent extremism and hate in order to enthrone peace and security in the country on which governance can be assured.
Speaking on Tuesday at the launch of “Nigeria’s Policy Framework and National Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism “ at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Buhari called on states and local governments in the country to develop action plans for preventing and countering violent extremism at the grassroots.
He also directed all ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) in the country to fashion out measures aimed at addressing the menace and implement programmes that would help Nigerians to recover from its negative consequences.
“I have directed all ministries, departments and agencies to address the root causes of violent extremism while implementing programmes that build the resilience of Nigerians to recover from the consequences of violence,” President Buhari said.
He added: “We must now while working together, focus in rooting out hate, misrepresentation of religion and violence in our society. I also call on states and local governments to develop action plans for preventing and countering violent extremism at the grassroots.”
