The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called upon the Federal Government to come clean and stop hiding the truth about the persistent fuel scarcity currently being experienced across the country.
The National President of the union, Comrade Igwe Achese told reporters on Wednesday that the Federal Government, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should tell Nigerians the truth about the emergence of long queues at filling stations.
According to him, none of the two labour unions in the nation’s oil sector were on strike to justify the unavailability of petroleum products which he said could worsen the hardship facing Nigerians at the moment.
Achese said: “NUPENG reiterates the need for the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and the NNPC to tell the nation what is actually happening as the two labour unions in the sector are not on strike.”
While describing the situation as a national shame and embarrassment for the citizens to celebrate the yuletide under the current atmosphere, the NUPENG boss called on the government to promptly address the problem instead of trading blames.
