The United Nations says it is outraged by the abduction of 110 school girls of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State by suspected Boko Haram militants.
The UN Secretary – General, Antonio Guterres through a statement issued by his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric said he strongly condemns the barbaric attack on the school and the subsequent abduction of the girls.
Mr. Guterres said he was deeply concerned over the condition of the abducted school girls and called for their immediate and unconditional safe release to their friends and concerned families.
While reiterating the solidarity and support of the UN to the Nigerian government and other countries affected by terrorism and violent extremism, the UN chief urged the Federal Government to swiftly bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
“And we very much hope that the perpetrators will be brought to justice, and just as important, that the girls will be found and returned to safety,” Guterres said.
“I think the fact that these young women were abducted in an educational setting, where they should have been safe, just adds to the horror of the story,” he added.
