The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed the release of some of the school girls abducted from Government Girls Science and Technical College in Dapchi Town, Yobe State by Boko Haram terrorists.

Their release is coming a week after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the troubled community and assured the parents and families of the victims that the abducted students would be released and safely returned to them.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and his Defence counterpart, Mansur Dan Ali made the confirmation while briefing State House correspondents ahead of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The ministers said the 76 released school girls who are currently in Dapchi, were being documented while negotiations towards the release of the remaining abducted students were still ongoing.

Also confirming the development, the leader of the parents of the abducted girls, Bashir Manzo told journalists that he had been informed that the girls were dropped in Dapchi  in the early hours of Wednesday by nine trucks, adding that he was heading to the location to confirm the report.

“My relatives and colleagues in Dapchi just informed me that the girls were brought this morning. I am heading to Dapchi now from Damaturu. When I get there, we will do a head count to see if all of them have been released,” Manzo said.
