A 20-year-old girl from Kerala, India, has reportedly committed suicide after she was subjected to sexual abuse and rape by a neighbour.

The incident is coming few days after the death of two minor sisters in the same locality after being  sexually abused.

According to reports, the girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison after she was raped by her neighbour, 24-year-old Ratheesh.

Ratheesh, an employee of a public sector undertaking, had barged into the girl’s house in the absence of her parents and sexually molested her.

Neighbours had seen Ratheesh fleeing from the house after the incident. He was chased, apprehended and handed  over to the police in Kanjikode.

The young girl, an employee at a private firm in Pallampulli, was subsequently admitted into an intensive care unit of a hospital where she succumbed to the poison two days later.

Post-mortem test reports confirmed the assault on the girl and the police authorities have assured the neighbourhood that the provisions of the law will have to be undertaken to ensure that Ratheesh is punished for the dastardly act.
