A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Monday ordered the remand of 60 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at the Afara Federal Prisons in Aba.
The Magistrate ordered that the IPOB members be remanded in prison after their counsel challenged the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The Magistrate, who later adjourned the case to October 25, also directed that the case file be transferred to the Department for Public Prosecution (DPP) for professional advice.
The IPOB members were among the agitators arrested in Umuahia, Isiala Ngwa and other parts of the state by security agents during the clash between the Army and the separatist group.
Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the IPOB members were arraigned in court on an eight – count charge including terrorism, conspiracy, attempted murder, rioting and membership of an unlawful society among others.
