Northern Nigerian youths under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) have said that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has performed below the expectation of millions of Nigerians who voted them into office.

In a statement released in Kaduna on Sunday, the National President of AYF, Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu called for the reshuffling of the President’s current cabinet as they have failed to assist him in the discharge of his duties.

“A situation where majority of Nigerians languish in abject poverty and penury, where people can no longer eat two times a day not to talk about three square meals a day is a worrisome development and a cause for concern for us and we believe should be for all well-meaning Nigerians.

“Time for change is now before it is too late; the alarming situation, however is that there seems not to be any concrete or genuine solutions coming from government and its agencies on how to ameliorate the present quagmire that is threatening to take the country to the precipice.

“It is because of this we are calling on the President to immediately undertake a cabinet reshuffle and bring in capable Nigerians who can assist him in changing the present status quo,” Gujungu said.

He added that the forum which has affiliates across the 19 Northern states and Abuja has come to the consensus that instead of finding solutions to the current economic situation, the sluggishness of the current administration in tackling some salient issues of governance have left so much to be desired.

The group expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of President Buhari to release the report of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo – led committee that investigated the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and his silence in the recent allegations leveled against the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

Gujungu further added that after an overview of the polity and the present predicament of the populace, the cherished reputation and integrity of President Buhari, which was a major factor in the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 general elections is being currently eroded as the government has thus far remained uncoordinated.
